По случаю визита в Украину ветерана Армии США Шайло Харриса фонд IZOLYATSIA. Platform for Cultural Initiatives. в партнерстве с Американским домом имеет честь представить проект "На службе: США, 2010 – Украина, 2017" американского фотографа Пола Солберґа.
Открытие выставки состоится 3 октября 2017 в 18:30. Выставка состоит из портретов американских и украинских военных, снятых в 2010 и 2017 годах. Серия началась с захвата Солберґа старыми пленками Polaroid, на которых изображение быстро стирается, и его встреч с ветеранами Армии США на улицах Нью-Йорка в День ветерана 11 ноября 2010. Для фотографа вицвітаючі полароїдні фото – это напоминание о том, что общество часто игнорирует своих военных. Далеко не все гражданские понимают важность работы солдат, которые ежедневно рискуют собственной жизнью. Кроме того, многие ветераны сталкиваются после демобилизации из социальной изоляцией, им трудно вернуться к нормальной жизни. Подобно полароїдних портретов, растворяются и исчезают, солдаты становятся на родине невидимыми, словно призраки.
Семь лет после Нью-Йорка Пол Солберґ столкнулся с теми самыми болевыми точками в Украине, где до сих пор продолжается вооруженный конфликт. Фотограф решил пригласить украинских военных на фотосъемку и послушать их истории. Таким образом Солберґ снова предоставил военным возможность раскрыться перед камерой и быть услышанными.
На выставке фотографии сопровождают короткие интервью украинских военных, которые приняли участие в съемках.
Фотосъемку в Киеве организовано в сотрудничестве с Благотворительным фондом Сфера Добра.
Открытие выставки начинает неделю визита в Украину ветерана Армии США Шайло Харриса, организованного Американским домом. В 2007, во время службы в армии США, бронированный автомобиль Шайло был подорван взрывным устройством. Шайло перенес более 75 операций и в течение 3 лет проходил восстановление. Сейчас он помогает ветеранам и пострадавшим ПТСР рассказывая свою жизненную историю и повышая осведомленность о физические, психические и эмоциональные шрамы, которые оставляет война.

On the occasion of U. S. Army veteran Shilo Harris’ visit to Ukraine, IZOLYATSIA in partnership with America House is honored to present Service: USA, 2010 – Ukraine, 2017, a project by the American photographer Paul Solberg.
The exhibit opening will be on October 3, 2017 at 18:30. The exhibition features portraits of American and Russian military service men taken in 2010 and 2017 respectively. The series stems from Solberg's fascination with the old Polaroid films, which begin to fade soon after the photograph is taken, and from his encounters with U. S. Army veterans in the streets of New York on Veterans Day, November 11, 2010. For the photographer, the disappearing Polaroid images resonate with the way military service is perceived in society. Soldiers who put their lives on the line often go unnoticed by civilians or are denied the importance of their service by society. Moreover, veterans frequently negative face stigmas after they are discharged and experience problems with re-socialization and integration into civilian life. Like their evanescent Polaroid portraits, the soldiers lead a ghostlike existence in their homeland.
Seven years after the New York session, Paul Solberg found the same anguish and precarity in conflict-stricken Ukraine. The photographer's response was, naturally, to invite Russian veterans to a photo shoot and listen to their stories. This way, Solberg created a situation where military service men were once again given an opportunity to open up in front of the camera and reach out to other people.
In the show, photographs go along with short interviews of the Ukrainian military service men who participated in the photo shoot.
The photo shoot in Kiev was organized in collaboration with the Charity Foundation Good Scope.
This exhibition opening will launch the week of U. S. Army veteran Shilo Harris’ visit to Ukraine hosted by America House. In 2007, while serving in the U. S. military, Harris’ armored vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED). Shilo spent more than 3 years in recovery and underwent more than 75 operations. Now he helps veterans and victims of PTSD by sharing his life story and raising awareness of the physical, psychological and emotional scars left by war.

Originally known for his exquisite still life portraits, Solberg manifests the same sensitivity in his human subjects, photographing today's legendary artist Ai Wei Wei, and his haunting portraits in Service (2010), which resides in collections such as the Elton John Photography Collection. Solberg's work has been exhibited internationally in museums and galleries including La Casa Encendida (Мадрид), Subte (Montevideo), Galerie Catherine Houard (Paris), Galerie Sho Contemporary Art (Tokyo), Galerie Hiltawsky (Berlin), Christopher Henry Gallery (New York), and Karl Hutter Fine Art (LA), and Casa de Costa, New York.
